Role summary
This role is for a Project and Maintenance Engineer responsible for supporting the efficient operation and maintenance of production lines while ensuring equipment reliability and performance.
You will work closely with the production and R&D teams to design and implement new pilot production lines, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and optimise processes. Based in the Porto area, you will play a key role in maintaining operational excellence while contributing to the company's growth and continuous improvement objectives. You will work hands-on with an experienced production lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive efficiency and innovation.
Where you fit in
You will support the realisation of ISS's pilot plant. You will actively contribute to projects and implement new pilot production lines, ensuring things run smoothly and efficiently. Your input will be essential to support our growth and operations.
What is the role?
Your main responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Design, plan, and implement the installation of new production lines and/or equipment in collaboration with the engineering, production, R&D and quality teams.
- Ensure the maintenance and optimal performance of all production and R&D equipment.
- Evaluate and oversee the installation of equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and engineering standards.
- Perform troubleshooting and provide solutions for mechanical, hydraulic, and structural issues to minimise equipment downtime.
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance plans, ensuring the reliability and longevity of production equipment.
- Support the integration of new machinery, including site preparation and system alignment.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth instalations , support the scale up of processes from laboratory and adherence to project timelines and budgets.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to support the company's growth, innovation and sustainability goals.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives to drive efficiency and reduce costs.
- Assist in managing intellectual property related to mechanical designs and innovations, ensuring that new developments are protected.
What we need from you?
To succeed in this role, you will have the following:
Skills:
-A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master in Mechanical Engineering or biotechnology is a plus);
- Proven experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of production equipment, with a focus on mechanical, hydraulic, and structural systems;
- Strong knowledge of piping systems, industrial/pilot machinery and installation;
- Proficiency in technical drawing and the ability to create detailed engineering designs;
- Experience in troubleshooting and problem-solving mechanical and hydraulic issues in an industrial setting;
- Experience in downstream bioprocesses is a strong plus;
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams;
- A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and operational excellence;
- Knowledge of relevant industry safety standards and regulations.
- Min 3 years of experience.
