Product Developer (ISS 01) Starting in January 2021

We are currently looking to immediately hire, on a long-term basis, a very enthusiastic product developer at the beginning of his / her career, willing to contribute to the development of new product and service solutions and data that will thrive ISS and the European Blue Economy ecosystem. You would be able to make a difference while working with a team sharing the common mission of creating shared value via Algal (Seaweed, Microalgae) Marine Biotechnology, working from the scratch up to the proof of concept, towards the pre-industrial case.

Admission requirements - BSc or MSc in Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or similar areas - Immediate availability (stated in the motivation letter see below) - No previous contributions for the Portuguese Social Security (mandatory requirement)
Preferential factors to be considered - Experience in optimization of algal cultivation - Experience on compounds extraction - Experience in bioactivities assessment - Experience in and biochemical assays namely spectrophotometric and liquid- and gas- chromatography assays - Experience in writing of scientific publication and reports - English working level

Work plan The candidate will work in the critical steps to maximize the potential of algal biotechnology, namely through the extraction of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial compounds, that can be used as functional ingredients for the nutraceutical and cosmetic markets. Thus, the candidate will explore the use of different operating conditions and pre-industrial extraction techniques, in order to create an algal bioprocess on a pre-industrial scale. This work will culminate in a proof of concept, applying the operational conditions optimized on a pre-industrial scale, corroborating its real applicability.
Work place The work will be carried out at the ISS head office, with headquarters located in CIIMAR - Novo Edifício do Terminal de Cruzeiros do Porto de Leixões, Av. General Norton de Matos, s/n, Matosinhos, or other ISS future locations, under the scientific supervision of Doctor A. Catarina Guedes, ISS co-founder.
Duration of the contract Starting in January 2021, the candidate will support the 3 ½ year scale-up roadmap implementation, under the regime of exclusivity, renewable according to milestones success.
Salary & Benefits Gross monthly salary: € 1,068.88; 14 months/ year + Food allowance and work accidents insurance + Variable according to ISS HR valorization plan
Candidate selection methods The first ranking of candidates will be performed after a CV evaluation based on: • Academic qualification: 30% • Experience according to the preferential factors: 50% • Values & Attitudes according the motivation letter: 20%
When necessary, an interview will be done to the top candidates, after which a final ranking will be performed based on: • CV and experience in the field evaluation: 50% • Interview: 50%
The selected jury reserves the right to not assign the contract if none of the candidates meets all requirements and match the desired profile.
