New Business Development Manager (ISS 05) Starting in April 2023
About ISS - Inclita Seaweed Solutions ISS is an innovative and sustainable Portuguese marine biotech startup, dedicated to the discovery, development, production and commercialisation of sustainable and innovative ingredients derived from seaweeds, tailored to the needs of customers in cosmetics, nutraceuticals and petceuticals. ISS is a spin-off from CIIMAR and is well funded and supported by a lead investor which is a sizeable independent VC firm in Portugal with proven experience in successfully propelling Iberian startups into international markets.
Role summary This role is for a business champion comfortable in handling the commercial operation from marketing to sales. You will be leading the ISS’s commercial team responsible for finding out what our ideal customers’ needs and desires are, translating them into actionable insights about which products and solutions to develop and commercialise. Your objective and KPI is finding Product-Market-Fit and capitalising on those insights by generating commercial traction and sales. You will work alongside an experienced innovation and product development team, and in close collaboration with the Chief Business Officer (CBO) and other founders. You will think and operate strategically building initial product discovery talks with customers and users generating sales and joint-development partnerships
Where you fit in: You will drive the realisation of ISS’s innovation-driven business growth aspirations by originating, developing, and executing new business development and growth opportunities via new market entry, new business models, joint developments and innovative solutions commercialisation. You will deliver growth and sales with a high level of accountability and autonomy. You will make a measurable contribution to ISS commercial strategy through application of relationship-building, influencing, stakeholder engagement, project management and negotiation skills. You will be responsible for representing ISS and furthering ISS’s interests with a wide range of third parties and the ability to act with integrity and deliver results in this environment will be critical.
What’s the role and responsabilities? Your main responsibilities will be to support the ISS’s CBO and founders’ team to identify, assess, select, define, and execute new growth and business development opportunities, combining ISS’s financial gain and customer satisfaction, which include but not are limit to the following: -Develop a proactive approach to opportunity origination, including markets study, preliminary due diligence and assessment of deal value and risks. -Prioritise new opportunities and potential targets that fit ISS’s business growth, innovation and sustainability strategy. -Support ISS’ CBO, CEO and founders in various phases of deal execution from origination to closure and after-sales support. -Support the CBO and founders in communicating the company’s commercial strategy to investors, management, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders. -Ensure due diligence robustness for effective value/risk management, develop detailed business cases, prepare approval documentations, while ensuring strategic alignment and optimal use of scarce resources (capital and people). -Create marketing and sales collateral/assets and support negotiations on contractual terms to deliver optimal value for ISS, while striving to generate shared value for all stakeholders. -Actively contribute to the development of ISS’ innovation roadmap by acting as the internal voice of the market / customer base. -Drive the selection and manage the commercial infrastructure of tools for marketing, sales, and partnerships (e.g. CRM, company website, and social media). -Ensure interfaces with internal functions are engaged appropriately during various project phases for end-to-end project and value delivery and robust risk management. -Supervise recruitment, development, and organisation of all new business development staff. -Coordinate ad hoc team matters, including various project tracking, internal reports, plan external meetings and conferences, and organize knowledge management and learnings.
What we need from you: This role is for a business development champion comfortable in handling the commercial operation from marketing to sales, including new business development for innovative products. To succeed in this role, you will have the following:
Basics: -Commercial sense, business acumen and customer-centric skills and experience introducing new products to the B2B market. -Experience working in an early-stage and fast growth startup is preferred. -Experience in the science driven and sustainable blue economy, natural cosmetic or nutraceutical ingredients industries. -Proficient oral and written English and outstanding skill in business reporting, Portuguese speaking and writing are a plus. -Candidates with passion, strategic thinking, problem-solving, agile and entrepreneurial skills, team spirit, responsiveness, and self-driven are preferred.
NEW Business Development Skills: -Human-centred design, agile and lean startup approach applied to business development. -5+ years in business development or marketing & sales for innovative B2B natural cosmetic or nutraceutical ingredients. -Experience in product discovery and product-market fit in B2B setting. -Proven exponential sales track record. -Ability to build rapport internally, with customers and end users thanks to an elegant stakeholder engagement. -Sound understanding of science driven commercialisation processes and high level negotiation skills for innovative and sustainable solutions.
