About ISS - Inclita Seaweed Solutions ISS is an innovative and sustainable Portuguese marine biotech startup, dedicated to the discovery, development, production and commercialisation of sustainable and innovative ingredients derived from seaweeds, tailored to the needs of customers in cosmetics, nutraceuticals and petceuticals. ISS is a spin-off from CIIMAR and is well funded and supported by a lead investor which is a sizeable independent VC firm in Portugal with proven experience in successfully propelling Iberian startups into international markets.
Role summary This role is for an entrepreneurial finance professional comfortable in driving the finance function from accounting to budgeting and reporting. You will be leading the ISS's finance unit responsible for enabling a sustainable and profitable growth journey of a highly promising marine biotech startup based in Portugal. You will work alongside an experienced and engaged team, and in close collaboration with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the executive team. You will think and operate strategically building investment plans, enhancing the operational and commercial performance of ISS and supporting the development of strategic partnerships, in support of the company’s strategic goals and roadmap.

What is the role? Your main responsibilities will be to support the ISS’s CEO and executive team to enhance the company’s financial performance, sustainable business and profitable growth, combining ISS’s financial gain and customer satisfaction, which include but not are limit to the following:
- Overseeing and manage the day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies). - Preparing and analysing financial reports, providing insights and recommendations to senior management. - Collaborating with cross-functional teams to support strategic decision-making and financial planning for operational performance and strategic projects and investments. - Managing the budgeting and forecasting processes to optimise financial performance. - Ensuring timely and accurate completion of month-end and year-end closing activities. - Implementing and maintaining robust internal controls to safeguard company assets. - Driving the continuous improvement of tools for financial accounting, budgeting, and reporting. - Supporting ISS's CEO and executive team in various phases of deal execution, from origination to closure and after-sales support, and in engaging with various stakeholders, including investors, staff, partners, customers, and other stakeholders. - Ensuring due diligence robustness for effective value/risk management, develop detailed business cases, prepare approval documentations, while ensuring strategic alignment and optimal use of valuable resources (capital and people). - Ensuring interfaces with internal functions are engaged appropriately during various project phases for end-to-end project and value delivery and robust risk management. - Supervising recruitment, development, and organisation of all new finance staff. - Coordinating ad hoc team matters, including various project tracking, internal reports, plan external meetings and conferences, and organize knowledge management and learnings.
What we need from you? This role is for a finance manager comfortable in handling the financial operation from accounting, to budgeting to reporting. To succeed in this role, you will have the following:
Skills: - Finance, Business Administration or Economic Degree or Master from a reputable institution. - Minimum working experience of 5 years. - Business acumen and customer-centric skills and experience in a B2B market. - Experience working in an early-stage and fast growth startup is preferred. - Deep knowledge of financial accounting and reporting rules and regulations in Portugal and Europe. - Proven track record of building and leading financial systems and teams. - Good interpersonal skills, willingness, and ability to work collaboratively and foster a high performing team spirit. - Well organised and able to structure the financial accounting and reporting system of a fast-growing startup. - Proficient oral and written English and outstanding skill in business reporting, Portuguese speaking and writing are a plus. - Candidates with passion, strategic thinking, problem-solving, agile, and entrepreneurial skills, team spirit, responsiveness, and self-driven are preferred.
